What’s the cost?

How to calculate your premium

Find the rate that applies to your age in the table below. Then multiply this rate by the average balance of your Line of Credit during the insurance billing period and divide by 1,000.

If applicable, apply discounts mentioned above and provincial sales taxes.

The examples below provide an overview of premium calculation. Premium cost will be adjusted based on the number of days in a billing period. You can find the details in your certificate of insurance.

Example 1
If you are 34 years old and your spouse is 32, and your

average monthly balance on your line of credit is $20,000, then

your monthly insurance cost would be calculated as follows:
Critical Illness Insurance:
(0.22 +0.20)   x $20,000
1,000
= $8.40
Less 15% for the joint discount = $ 7.14
Life Insurance
(0.22 +0.20)   x $20,000
1,000
= $8.40
Less 15% for the joint discount = $ 7.14
Monthly premium expense with a joint-coverage discount;
7.14+7.14   = $14.28

Example 2
If you are 34 years old and your average monthly line of credit

balance is $200,000, you’ll get a 20% discount on your

premiums for the portion of the balance that exceeds $75,000.

This means that your monthly life insurance

premium would be calculated as follows:
Life Insurance on the first $ 75,000:
(0.22) x(0.20)   $75,000
1,000
=$16.50
Life Insurance on the portion exceeding $75,000:
(0.22) x (0.20)    $125,000
1,000
=$27.50
20% discount on the portion exceeding $75,000 = $ 19.00
Monthly premium expense with all discounts:
$ 16.50 + $ 22.00   = $ 38.50
